This morning on the train I sat next to quite possibly the most annoying woman in Chicago. Well, technically, she sat down next to me. She plops down and is huffing and puffing until she huffs and puffs herself to sleep. Then, she starts snoring. Loudly.
I think she woke herself up because then she started to put on lip gloss – as if that was going to fix the graceful image of her knocked out with her head back, snoring, in front of a trainload of people. Next thing I know, I hear a snort. Apparently she’s asleep again. Lip gloss still in hand. As she slips in and out of consciousness, she’s also making weird moaning sounds and humming to herself. I couldn’t get off the train fast enough.
But all that is not the main point here. This was just the inspiration for my post: my top 3 pet peeves about people.
- Rude & inconsiderate people. Sometimes its hard to tell if they’re rude AND inconsiderate or if they’re just inconsiderate and too ignorant to realize they’re being rude. This includes, but is not limited to, people who: push past you to get on the train, are loud and obnoxious, take up two seats on the train (or just the outside seat when the inside one is empty) and basically just don’t think there’s anyone in the world more important than them.
- People that breathe loudly. I’m sorry if you have a medical condition, just ran up a flight of stairs or have some other legitimate reason for huffing and puffing next to me. It’s just something that always completely annoys me.
- People that don’t understand the definition of personal space. Please don’t push up against me when you have room to be at least two feet away from me. I don’t like strangers and I don’t like crowds.
So, if you’re one of these people, don’t worry, I’m not going to confront you about it. I’m just going to be my passive-agressive self and write a blog post about it.
What are some of your pet peeves?
i wonder what wouldve happened if you confronted her…would she have been apologetic? or angry? maybe she wouldnt have cared at all…hmm… i guess you made the right move by being passive aggressive…i say it’s all a part of taking the train…i bet you get to see and experience all diff types of people..and i’m sure some of them will get on your nerves…and this post might not make much sense cuz i just drank a crapload of beer..haha =)
take it easy hobo! =)
ha! you’re crazy! i’m so glad you read my blog even when you’re halfway around the world =) thanks for being one of my 3 loyal readers!
It’s called public transportation! If you want comfort it’s best to drive. Unfortunately, society will not change. Some people weren’t taught etiquette and others just don’t care. Just imagine how many people were on that train and annoyed by the same woman next to you. I had a similar experience, this woman was sleeping and leaning my way. I kindly tapped her on the shoulder, and she woke up startled, and a little embarrased. After that she stood awake the rest of the ride. Some people need a little reality check! The blog is a nice touch, but what else is new! It’s great CTA is working on the buses, but it would be nice if they refreshed the seating on the “L” so people can enjoy a decent ride to work! =)
