Miami Polish

….and I’m not just talking about me in Miami. After checking out the SCOPE Art Fair, me and my mom went over the bay into downtown Miami for a Polish artists exhibit. It featured several artists we know from Chicago, including Malgorzata Czerniejewska, Miroslaw Chudy and Piotr Janowski, among others. It was a fun evening, … Continue reading

Happy Birthday Chopin

chopin grave pere lachaise cemetery paris

Just a few years ago, during my three-month trip to Europe, I got to experience a few different Chopin landmarks. I saw his grave at Pere Lachaise Cemetery in Paris, then re-visited the famous statue of him at Łazienki Park in Warsaw, then visited a brand new interactive museum dedicated to him (also in Warsaw). Some … Continue reading

Albany Carroll Arts Building

As part of Chicago Artists Month, I went to check out the Albany Carroll Arts Building. It’s actually the only stop I made it to as part of Open House Chicago, too. Let’s just say it was another weekend of trying to squeeze in too much into two days. Nevertheless, I’m still determined to check … Continue reading

October is Chicago Artists Month

October is Chicago Artists Month, and now is your chance to get a peek into artists’ work spaces, galleries and other non-traditional art locations. Last Friday, I checked out a couple galleries in the Bucktown/Ukranian Village area with my mom. My mom’s friend, Iwona Biedermann is a photographer and the owner of Dreambox Gallery on North … Continue reading

Polish Museum of America hosts photography exhibit

The Polish Museum of America is hosting an exhibit featuring the works of Chicago Tribune photojournalist Zbigniew Bzdak. After leaving Poland, he actually ended up traveling in Latin America before ending up in Chicago. The exhibit is titled, “Pilgrims,” so I’m curious to see which photographs from Bzdak’s diverse experiences will be displayed. Check out … Continue reading

Modern Polish Posters at the Polish Museum of America in Chicago

I am obsessed with posters, especially Polish posters. Poster art is huge in Poland (and I’d like to think renown internationally), and when I was in Warsaw a year and a half ago, I checked out the Polish Poster Museum at Wilanow, stocked up on books filled with old Polish poster art, and even began … Continue reading

Adam Makowicz plays Chopin, jazz standards

I wasn’t really sure what to expect from the Adam Makowicz concert, especially since I’m not a huge jazz aficionado. However, it was definitely jazz I could get down with. Makowicz is an older gentleman, and he is so adorable – totally looks like a Polish dziadek (grandfather), and I mean that in the best … Continue reading

Polish Film Festival Poster Contest

To me, poster art is a big part of Poland’s art scene & heritage. Now, the Polish Film Festival of America is hosting it’s own poster contest for this November’s event. But hurry – the deadline is Tuesday, Aug. 30. The artist’s design will be unveiled in September 2011 at the reception for the festival.  The … Continue reading

Unzipped exhibit opening reception

Last night was the opening reception for Unzipped at the Society for Art, and there was a really good turnout for the event. I realized I had been at this particular gallery before a few years ago for a Chicago Latino Film Festival Poster exhibit (the gallery is by Milwaukee & Ashland, and hosts a … Continue reading
