Some people might prepare for a five-day hike up Machu Picchu by physically training – you know, running, biking, exercising, etc. Especially people who are not physically fit. But not me. I prepare for Peru by eating Peruvian food!
Daniela and I decided to take an impromptu trip to Machu Picchu Restaurant by Ashland and Irving Park. I’ve only had a couple Peruvian dishes here and there, but knew I wanted to order the giant Peruvian corn I’d had once before. The Choclo con Queso was definitely a yummy appetizer!
Then I saw Inca Kola on the menu, so definitely wanted to try that since I’d read about it in my Peru book as the prefered pop of Peru. It looked like Mountain Dew but tasted like cream soda. Super sweet. I wasn’t too crazy about it, but it was ok.
To top things off I had the Bistec a lo Pobre – steak with fried eggs, plantains and fries? How could I resist!
I’m glad to know that I have a great Peruvian restaurant right down the street (that delivers)!
and BYOB!
