By now, your Facebook feed is probably filled with friends dropping ice-cold water over their heads. It’s all in support of a good cause, so when my co-worker challenged me, I had to do it. (I donated too!)
The ice bucket challenge is meant to spread awareness about ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. It affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord, which control the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement. As a result, patients may eventually become totally paralyzed.
A few facts:
- ALS most often affects people between ages 40 and 70
- As many as 30,000 Americans have the disease at any given time
- ALS occurs all throughout the world
- Learn more about the disease and donate at http://www.alsa.org
And with that – check out my ice bucket challenge:
